Jane brings her career full circle in 2017, reestablishing Tilka Design as a solo consultancy focusing on brand assessment and strategic brand development for organizations. The shift is a natural evolution of her life's work as a designer.
Starting in 1979 with a solo design practice, Jane founded Tilka Design in 1983, at the beginning of the Twin Cities' design and advertising boom. During those early years she also created a signature line of greeting cards for Recycled Paper Greetings, co-founded the Sox Appeal retail chain, developed a line of licensed products for Minnesota Public Radio, and raised sons Alex and Joe.
Under Jane's leadership Tilka Design went on the become a mainstay of the Minneapolis/St. Paul graphic design community, emphasizing brand research and development and visual identity systems. The firm's clients have included prominent Minnesota higher education, health care, financial services, government, and arts institutions. The lasting nature of those relationships deepened Jane's understanding of how brand potential is achieved over time.
Jane studied at the American Academy of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and renewed her undergraduate degree at St. Catherine's University. She currently serves on the College Advisory Board of the Weisman Art Museum and has served as a board member of the Jungle Theater, Minnesota Center for Book Arts, and the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphony.
